Create Personal Space
Creating Space for a Calm Lifestyle
Do you have the space you need to hear your innermost thoughts, to follow your own guidance and to know what you truly want, need and dream of?
In a world of enormous change and challenge, it’s easy to get sucked into all the commotion and not allow yourself the space you need. Maybe you find yourself getting stressed out or anxious after listening to the news, reading about the latest health scare or interacting with certain individuals. We often run our lives on habit, obligations and imposed priorities, never quite getting to our deepest needs.
Is it time to put some limits on all of that, create the space you need and be more intentional about who and what is in your world?
I’d like to share 3 steps you can tailor to your needs that will create space and allow a calmer lifestyle to exist. A lifestyle that supports you to be healthy and happy and provides the space for you to dream, to be and to do ……….not simply react to a world of challenge.
1. Utilize tunnel vision, which is about limiting the outside input. Turn off your electronics as much as is reasonable,
so notifications stop,
so you aren’t inundated with the news and needs of the world, and
so your brain isn’t continually processing multiple things, jumping all around unable to really focus well anywhere.
Start small if necessary – maybe 2 hrs at a time - and build up your private space from there. Find ways to limit the outside noise.
2. Your personal practice relates to how you calm and center yourself during the day. You may already have time to walk, be in nature, dance, meditate, write or create art of some sort. If you don’t have a regular routine, you may want to create one(s) that you love. It’s nice to have a variety of things to choose from – a 15 min doodling practice as well as an hour long walk. Also, do you have a few things you can do in the midst of a stressful event when you get thrown off center? Slow, deep breathing is often a ‘go to’ for many.
3. Outside forces is about surrounding yourself with the people, environments, energy that support and uplifts you. What does a calm environment look like for you and what can you do to bring more of that in? Who are the people that feel good to be with? By seeking out people and places that inspire and support you, the road becomes smoother and more direct.
In summary,
Limit outside input to create the space you need so you can
Tend to your well-being and build inner resources, and then
Be nourished by your environment and nurtured by others in your life.
